Written Directives
The Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement has a written directive system that specifies policies, procedures, regulations, and practices in writing and available to all Agency employees. The directives have a standardized format and indexing system that allows for greater understanding and flexibility. These directives provide employees with a clear understanding of the constraints and expectations relating to the performance of their duties. Input from all levels in developing written directives is encouraged and executive staff approval is required prior to any directive’s dissemination. Regular review and updating of directives is required to keep written procedures current with Agency practices.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES (P&P'S) : P&P's are applicable to employees' job tasks. P&P's provide all employees with detailed procedures, instructions, and/or information, which they must know and understand in the performance of their duties.
BUREAU SPECIAL ORDERS: Bureau Special Orders provide policy, procedures, and instructions that pertain only to employees of an individual bureau who are charged with particular responsibilities, which are the subject of the order. Bureau Special Orders deal with matters of a specialized or parochial nature, and are not of widespread concern to all employees of the Agency.
ORGANIZATIONAL CHARTS: The Office of Agricultural Law Enforcement will maintain a current table of organization, referred to as an organizational chart (PDF). This document will be distributed to employees and updated as organizational changes occur. An effective chain of command allows orders to flow from the head of an organization to the most junior member. At the same time, the chain of command (PDF) also allows information, ideas, and complaints to flow upward through the same chain. It is critical in para-military organizations such as ours.
